According to the results of a new national survey of small business owners:
42% of small business owners said they have experienced burnout in the past month; 24% reported they are currently experiencing burnout.
The level of burnout in today’s small business is not hard to understand when a business demands multiple sets of expertise and activities throughout every area of the business. In a small company, the business owner often wears many hats. In the morning the owner may find themselves setting the strategy and the long-term course for the ship. In mid-day, they become the product developer, reviewing sales figures for the most recent product offering. In the afternoon, they’re contacting customers, and later, managing payroll and benefits. There’s just not enough time in their day to take care of all the daily business responsibilities!
In other cases, the business owner may have employees to help with the responsibilities; however, more times than not, they do not have the time to develop adequate business systems to enable and efficient employee onboarding and training platform. Poor employee onboarding and adequate training quickly leads to employee frustration and we all know what happens then – the employees start looking for greener grass!
